Grand pianos are regarded by many as the ultimate choice in pianos. This is partly because of their beautiful shape, but mainly because they display superior sound. The soundboard of a grand piano is not placed vertically against a wall like an upright piano, but horizontally to the floor with some distance between the floor and the piano allowing the soundboard to vibrate more freely.
