European engineering, combined with Korean manufacturing prowess, has produced a range of highly respected grand pianos called the NSG Performance Series.
Samick Musical Instruments Co. Ltd is the oldest and largest piano manufacturer in Korea and ranked third in world piano sales. Within its short history Samick has grown from a small workshop manufacturing around a hundred pianos a year, into a network of modern and highly sophisticated manufacturing facilities producing more than 30,000 pianos annually. They export pianos to Asia-Pacific, Europe, America and other markets around the world.
For the first time in Samick's history a range of grand pianos have been made using the CNC process. This is a relatively new manufacturing system recommended by renowned German piano manufacturer, C. Bechstein. Bechstein's German technicians recently provided a consultancy to Samick and worked with them to produce the New Samick Grand (NSG) piano range.
CNC stands for 'Computer Numerical Control'. This is a computer jargon for the modern robot manufacturing process operated by three dimensional computer software. These robots can be programmed to cut within one hundredth of a millimeter, thus producing breath-taking accuracy and a zero defect rate. The CNC integrated system recently purchased by Samick was manufactured in Germany. Samick is currently the only piano manufacturer in Asia utilizing the German engineering system and it is one of the most up to date version being used in the world today.
Why use robots?
Computer Numerical Control produces consistency and accuracy in cutting the major parts of the piano, which means all NSG pianos will display better sound, tuning stability and longevity. Some people think that hand-made is better and more 'romantic'. However, there are many technical aspects of piano design linked to physics, that today's researchers have discovered can improve a piano's performance. It is very difficult to achieve these improvements using the same manufacturing methods used 300 years ago. Times have changed!
What are the advantages?
• The NSG range demonstrates a fuller, richer tone due to their distinct new body shape. They have a wider design which allows increased string length and greater soundboard area, delivering a quality of sound that surpasses similar sized pianos in the market
• The NSGs exhibit a noticeably greater range of dynamics, allowing fuller expression from pianissimo to fortissimo
• Sustain is lengthened. Design improvements and manufacturing accuracy of the soundboard, ribs etc ensures dynamic expression is maximised and also sustained longer
• Extraneous noises are removed that could have previously occurred through manual manufacture of the physical structure
• Excellent tonal harmony is achieved through more accurate positioning of components, such as the bridge and ribs on the soundboard etc
• Sound energy is conserved due to greater structural support and adhesive strength of parts connected by the CNC machine
Samick NSG grand pianos allow you to play with greater efficiency, sensitivity and emotion while maintaining warmth and crispness in tone throughout. Samick NSGs are a new playing experience.
Brand new Samick NSG grand pianos are available through Hutchings’ Rent-to-Buy program so it is easy to try Samick’s NSG Performance Series grand pianos before you buy.
The Samick NSG158 is not a baby grand, it is a compact concert grand. The unique NSG shape and 158cm (5ft 2in) length means that the soundboard area is larger and the string length longer than the majority of small grand pianos in the market. This feature, combined with CNC manufacturing excellence means Samick's NSG158 finally makes it possible for you to find a compact grand you can play with power, intensity and also delicate expression.
The perfect piano for small teaching studios, families wishing to invest in an estimable first grand piano and grand piano enthusiasts (with limited space) awaiting a whole new piano experience.
If you need a piano that not only sounds wonderful brand new, but will maintain is tonal colour and withstand continual practice and often strenuous use, then consider the Samick NSG175. The NSG175 features solid spruce backposts providing added strength and durability and CNC shaped ribs, integrated with the inner rim, reinforces the soundboard and guarantees unhindered sound production. This is a medium sized grand piano - 175cm or 5 feet 7 inches in length - providing even longer string length and fullness of sound.
This piano is designed particularly for dedicated teachers and intermediate to advanced piano students, but it is also perfect for those who enjoy playing the piano regularly and with passion!
Professionals will recognise that the sound quality of the NSG186 grand piano far exceeds other pianos of similar 186cm or 6 feet 1 inch length in the market. This is due to the shape of the body allowing the soundboard to be 72cm2 larger and the first bass string is 9.2cm longer than other grand pianos the same size.
In contrast to many other pianos of this calibre, the Samick NSG series is not over priced, making an investment in the NSG186 a real opportunity for many people who otherwise may not have believed purchasing a first-class grand piano was possible.
The Samick NSG186 is an exemplary piano for school auditoriums, conservatorium practice studios, hotel function rooms, entertainment venues, advanced students to music industry professionals and perceptive buyers hoping to discover a unique and exceptional experience.
